Are you sure it's the cable causing the problem. Not the latch mechanism, that could do with a good clean & re-oil

N/S Quarter panel, behind the speaker,
Don't break the plastic trim panel break taking them off in the wrong order

Or you have to 'Twist the bracket

Order one from E-bay or Rockauto's
Go for Mazda 626GE, & change the connector with one from the Probe

Have you a chipped Key

If so , it's likely the TEMIC security system we have on the Late Probe's ( post 1996).
These are 'matched to the ECU', so you can't just swap over the ECU's on Late cars.

That might be your problem.

Try a bit of WD-40 on the clutch pedal pivot

You said you changed the ECU

Do you have the TEMIC system on the car

If so, is the replacement ECU match to it

Count the flashes on the dashboard- that's the trouble code.
